ISBN-10 : 0749454644
Rar'd PDF 2.4 MB's Full

Description:
Qualitative research is a powerful tool which plays a part in conducting marketing research into customer value analysis, branding and naming, new product launch, customer satisfaction and market segmentation, among other marketing areas.

Its techniques include all types of focus groups, in depth one-one-one interviews, intercept studies and observational research. Because of its importance in determining buyer attitudes and beliefs it has been growing exponentially.

Sheila Keegan, psychologist and market research practitioner, outlines the history of qualitative research, its purpose and role, its relationship to quantitative research, ethical issues it provokes, and how to analyze, interpret, and communicate research results. She presents different theoretical models within which qualitative research operates and uses case studies to show how these frameworks differ between the UK, Europe, the US and other countries.

The Google Way: How One Company Is Revolutionizing Management as We Know It

By Bernard Girard
Publisher: No Starch Press
Pages: 256, Date: 2009-04-01
ISBN-10 : 1593271840, RAR-ed PDF 1.78 MB

Description:
Shortly after World War I, Ford and GM created the large modern corporation, with its financial and statistical controls, mass production, and assembly lines. In the 1980s, Toyota stood out for combining quality with continuous refinement.

Today, Google is reinventing business yet again-the way we work, how organizations are controlled, and how employees are managed.

Management consultant Bernard Girard has been analyzing Google since its founding in 1998, and now in The Google Way, he explores Google's innovations in depth-many of which are far removed from the best practices taught at the top business schools.

As you read, you'll see how much of Google's success is due to its focus on users and automation. You'll also learn how eCommerce has profoundly changed the relationship between businesses and their customers, for the first time giving customers an important role to play in a major corporation's growth.

Finally, Girard speculates about the limits of Google's business model and discusses the challenges it will face as it continues to grow.

Google's culture is one of innovation. Why not make that spirit of innovation your own?

Great Minds in Management: The Process of Theory Development

By Ken G. Smith, Michael A. Hitt
Oxford University Press, USA | 2005
ISBN: 0199276811 | 616 pages | PDF | 2,3 MB

In Great Minds in Management, Ken G. Smith and Michael A. Hitt have brought together some of the most influential and original thinkers in management. Their contributions to this volume not only outline their landmark contributions to management theory, but also reflect on the process of theory development, presenting their own personal accounts of the gestation of these theories.

The result is not only an ambitious and original panorama of the key ideas in management theory presented by their originators, but also a unique collection of reflections on the process of theory development, an area which to date little has been written about by those who have actually had experience of building theory. In their concluding chapter, Ken G. Smith and Michael A. Hitt draw together some common themes about the development of management theory over the last half a century, and suggest some of the conclusions to be drawn about how theory comes into being.

Contributors: Chris Argyris, Albert Bandura, Jay B. Barney, Lee R. Beach, Kim Cameron, Michael R. Darby, Robert Folger, R. Edward Freeman, Michael Frese, J. Richard Hackman, Donald C. Hambrick, Michael A. Hitt, Anne S. Huff, Gary P. Latham, Edwin A. Locke, Henry Mintzberg, Terrence R. Mitchell, Richard T. Mowday, Ikujiro Nonaka, Greg R. Oldham, Jeffrey Pfeffer, Lyman W. Porter, Denise M. Rousseau, W. Richard Scott, Ken G. Smith, Barry M. Staw, Richard M. Steers, Victor H. Vroom, Karl E. Weick, Oliver E. Williamson, Sidney G. Winter, and Lynn Zucker

"This volume should be read by all aspiring scholars and is well worth inclusion in management doctoral seminars. The personal stories presented in this volume will make readers realize how theory development is not analogous to treading a lonely path, "a bolt of lightening", or even a combination of the two. It is a much more complex social dynamic process fueled by personal insight, commitment, and energy, as well as stimulation by colleagues in the scholarly and managerial communities. We thoroughly enjoyed reading the book and we believe you will too."

101 American English Idioms: Understanding and Speaking English Like an American, Book with Audio

By : Harry Collis
Publisher: McGraw-Hill
Date: February 9, 1987
Pages: 135 Size: 62.6 Mb Format: PDF + MP3
Quality: Adequate, readable, 44kHz/128kbps

101 American English Idioms takes the mystery out of these common U.S. expressions and explains their meanings in context. On the audio CD, native speakers read each of the 101 idioms, so you can hear how American English sounds and practice what you have learned.

What Americans really mean when they say . . .
• Drive someone up a wall--annoy someone greatly
• Raise a stink--protest strongly
• Pull someone's leg--fool someone
• All thumbs--clumsy
• Shoot the breeze--chat informally
• Feel like a million dollars--feel wonderful
• Duck soup--easy, effortless

Review
"I am a Bostonian who heard the recording from one of my English students. Dressed to the teeth is an expression I readily recognize, but I am more likely to read it than to hear it in everyday, modern conversation. Some of the expressions are probably regional, perhaps most from Northeastern section of the country. Of course the term American is often misused, and foreign visitors should be careful buying books claiming to teach American words or phrases."

Project Management Body of Knowledge: (Pmbok Guide), 4 edition

By Project Management Institute
Publisher: Project Management Institute
Pages: 459, Date: 2008-12-31
ISBN-10 / ASIN: 1933890517, RAR-ed PDF 31.4 MB

Besides all the criticism, I find this book very useful and a must for every project manager. However, if you are a beginner to the discipline of proejct management, first go through a basic book on project management such as 90 Days to Success as a Project Manager;the only book (for now) that is compatible with this (4th) edition of the PMBOK Guide.

I am asking my students to read this book (40 days...) before reading the PMBOK Guide and after reading the PMBOK Guide. It is a well known fact that Standards in any field tend to be dry. Otherwise with the help of other books such as the one mentioned above, it can be a great entry into the discipline of project management.

The 48 Laws of Power

File PDF size 25 Mb

"Learning the game of power requires a certain way of looking at the world, a shifting of perspective," writes Robert Greene. Mastery of one's emotions and the arts of deception and indirection are, he goes on to assert, essential. The 48 laws outlined in this book "have a simple premise: certain actions always increase one's power ... while others decrease it and even ruin us."

The laws cull their principles from many great schemers--and scheming instructors--throughout history, from Sun-Tzu to Talleyrand, from Casanova to con man Yellow Kid Weil. They are straightforward in their amoral simplicity: "Get others to do the work for you, but always take the credit," or "Discover each man's thumbscrew.

" Each chapter provides examples of the consequences of observance or transgression of the law, along with "keys to power," potential "reversals" (where the converse of the law might also be useful), and a single paragraph cleverly laid out to suggest an image (such as the aforementioned thumbscrew); the margins are filled with illustrative quotations. Practitioners of one-upmanship have been given a new, comprehensive training manual, as up-to-date as it is timeless.

Finding the Best Business School for You: Looking Past the Rankings

By Everette E. Dennis, Sharon P. Smith
Publisher: Praeger Publishers
Pages: 224, Date: 2006-06-30
ISBN-10 : 0275988201
converted to pdf, rar'd, 0.8 MB, expands to 8 MB

Description:
Every year, more than 250,000 people take the Graduate Management Administration Test (GMAT) in preparation for applying to MBA programs. While many will seek admission to the top-ranked schools, only a small percentage will end up at one of these "elite" programs. Everette Dennis and Sharon Smith argue that those who think only in these narrow terms, assuming that "only the best" warrant their consideration, are shortchanging themselves in at least two ways: they may miss the mark and decide to forgo an MBA altoghter, or they may look past the best programs for themselves.

The truth is that, in response to changes in the global business environment, many schools are redesigning their curricula, forging closer ties with businesses, and giving students more freedom to customize their degrees. Some of the most innovative programs are being designed at public universities and other institutions out of the spotlight.

Ultimately, finding the best and most appropriate business school requires more than following trends and assessing rankings. Dennis and Smith offer an approach that is designed to help prospective MBA students cast the net more widely, thinking more expansively, creatively, and strategically, with both short- and long-term implications in mind.

Discussing the pros and cons of a formal business education (in the context of evolving attitudes toward management and the role of the MBA in developing successful leaders), the authors help readers identify their underlying motivations for pursuing an MBA, learn how to read between the lines of the popular rankings, and utilize the concept of return on investment (ROI) to evaluate programs on the basis of their contribution to long-term professional and personal goals. At a time when one-fourth of all master's degrees conferred are in business, Finding the Best Business School for You offers practical insights for making wise decisions and getting the most out of the MBA experience.
