Publisher: Jolly Learning Ltd (April 2003)
ISBN-10: 1903619394
File size: 14,7 MB
File type: PDF

The Jolly Readers are interesting storybooks designed for children who are just ready to read. They will have learned all the letter sounds in Jolly Phonics, and be able to blend these sounds to read simple words (including words not seen before). Available now is the first (red) level and the second (yellow) level of Jolly Readers. They use words with the basic letter sounds in Jolly Phonics, and not the alternative spellings of the digraphs.

These alternative spellings will be introduced in a later level. This new second level is slightly more advanced than the first and follows the same lively and interesting three series. Now, in addition to the 42 letter sounds used in the first level, y is used for the /ee/ sound at the end of words like funny. As before, light type is used as a guide for those few letters that should not be sounded out, such as the b in lamb, but not the tricky words, which should already be familiar.

Child Language: Acquisition and Growth

Publisher: Cambridge Univ Pr | 2006
ISBN-10: 0521444780 | ISBN-13: 978 0521444781
English | PDF | 410 pages | 2.34 Mb

The remarkable way in which young children acquire language has long fascinated linguists and developmental psychologists alike. Language is a skill that we have essentially mastered by the age of three, and with incredible ease and speed, despite the complexity of the task. This accessible textbook introduces the field of child language acquisition, exploring language development from birth.

Setting out the key theoretical debates, it considers questions such as what characteristics of the human mind make it possible to acquire language; how far acquisition is biologically programmed and how far it is influenced by our environment; what makes second language learning (in adulthood) different from first language acquisition; and whether the specific stages in language development are universal across languages. Clear and comprehensive, it is set to become a key text for all courses in child language acquisition, within linguistics, developmental psychology and cognitive science.

Kumon workbooks are based on the "Kumon Method", an educational philosophy that aims at unlocking the full learning potential of each individual child. The Kumon Method introduces learning concepts in an incremental, step-by-step approach, allowing children to master new skills easily and without anxiety or frustration. As a result, children gain confidence in their abilities and are motivated to learn on their own.

Over 3.5 million children around the world use the Kumon Method to develop their math and reading skills. Kumon Math and Reading Centers help students become successful, confident and self-motivated learners.

But it’s not just the Kumon Method that makes the workbooks special. It’s also the care and research that goes into the editorial content, design and quality of the books. Our editorial experts have more than two decades of experience in producing books that are both fun and educational.

Our designers create illustrations that attract and delight children. And the quality of our books is the best of any workbook on the market, with extra thick paper and the best available print quality. From pedagogy to paper, every one of our workbooks has been carefully crafted with your child’s best interests in mind.

Book list:
1. My Book Of Number Games 1-70 - 81 pages
This book contains two types of educational games. First are color-by-number exercises, which help children recognize numbers up to 70. Next are connect-the-dots exercises, which teach children ordinal numbers and the sequence of numbers between 1 and 70. Both types of exercises will create the basis skills needed for addition, subtraction and other advanced level math.

2. My Book Of Number Games 1-150 - 84 pages
This book builds on the skills developed by My Book of Number Games 1-70. In addition to reinforcing number recognition and number sequencing skills, My Book of Number Games 1 - 150 will help children understand the concept of a "digit," which will prepare them for higher-level multi-digit calculations. Mastering the concepts introduced in Kumon's two Number Games books will help children succeed when they progress to arithmetic and more advanced math.

3. My Book Of Rhyming Words And Phrases - 81 pages
Using games and exercises similar to those in My Book of Rhyming Words, this book helps children learn more advanced rhyming words and phrases. While learning to write and read situational phrases connected by conjunctions, such as "fox in box" and "cat in hat," children will begin to develop more advanced verbal skills.

4. My Book Of Rhyming Words - 82 pages
This book is for children who can read and write the twenty-six letters of the alphabet. Words that are familiar to children, such as hat, bat, rat and cat are grouped by the vowel and consonant combination of the last two letters. Through games and exercises that encourage children to trace letters and read aloud, children will learn how to read and write simple words.

5. My Book of Rhyming Words: Long Vowels - 83pages
Long vowels are the most difficult part of learning to read and write. Using a combination of Kumons systematic, step-by-step approach and established phonics theory, this book helps children understand how different vowel combinations make the same long vowel sounds. Ages 5-7

6. My Book of Writing Words: Learning about Consonants and Vowels - 81 pages
This workbook will show your child how to begin putting words together to make phrases, a crucial skill for sentence construction.
